Deputies of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Public Associations and the Media reviewed the draft Resolution of the Supreme Council “On the report on the situation of children in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in 2022” in the course of the regular meeting. Such a report is prepared annually by the Ministry of Education of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

Heads of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Healthcare and the Ministry of Social Protection and Labor were invited by deputies to the discussion.

A large block of questions that arose among the deputies of the relevant committee related to the field of healthcare. Deputies asked questions about the reasons for the decline in visual acuity in children and the factors behind the low birth rate. The topic of staff shortages in healthcare organizations was discussed. The deputies were interested in particular in how well the republic’s medical institutions are staffed with children’s specialists: pediatricians, neonatologists, ophthalmologists.

The specialized committee chairman Igor Buga suggested that it is the lack of specialists in the regions of the republic that leads to an increase in morbidity in children in many ways. After all, parents have to come to city specialists for preventive examinations. Not everyone has such an opportunity and not always.

The deputies were interested in why the number of applicants in higher and secondary vocational education organizations had decreased. They touched upon the topic of the mechanism for providing housing for orphans.

Deputies plan to ask all the questions at the Committee meeting to representatives of relevant ministries again when discussing the report on the situation of children in 2022 at one of the upcoming plenary meetings.

The Committee gave its opinion on the law-in-draft on the republican budget for 2024. After this law-in-draft has been studied in all Committees of the Supreme Council and considered at a meeting of the relevant Committee on Economic Policy, it will be submitted for consideration by the deputy corps in the first reading.
