It is proposed to reduce the mandatory work period for medical students. The corresponding law-in-draft on amendments to the Law "On Education" was developed by deputies Galina Antyufeeva and Oleg Petrik. It was considered today by deputies of the parliamentary Committee on Education, Public Associations and Mass Media in the course of the meeting.

Budget graduates who have received higher medical education, including under the residency program, are required to work for 3 to 5 years upon completion of their studies, according to the current legislation. The parliamentarians proposed reducing this period to 3 years. This is the mandatory work period currently set for all other university graduates who studied at the expense of the republican budget.

The law-in-draft also proposes other adjustments to the current mechanism of mandatory work for budget-funded graduates. However, these issues require additional discussion and should therefore be regulated within the framework of another legislative initiative, according to the deputies of the relevant Committee.

The final decision will be made by the deputies in the course of the plenary session. The relevant parliamentary Committee plans to include the law-in-draft on amendments to the Law "On Education" in the agenda of the next plenary session, which will be held on the 30th of April.
