The Law of the PMR “On Combating Extremist Activities” enshrined the right of the PMR Prosecutor and his deputy as well as the right of the Ministry of State Security of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic to apply to the court to recognize organizations or their structural subdivisions as extremist. The author of the legislative initiative is the Prosecutor of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. According to Anatoly Guretsky, the initiative is aimed at concretizing the already existing norms in the issue of countering extremist activity. Along with the amendments to the Law of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic "On Counteracting Extremist Activities", amendments were made to the Criminal and Civil Procedure Codes of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
The deputies discussed amendments to the legislations as part of the second reading in the course of today's plenary session. They specified that the Supreme Court of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic would consider cases on recognizing organizations or their structural subdivisions as extremist.
The amendments provided for the possibility of prosecuting leaders and members of organizations recognized by the court as extremist. The leadership of such an organization can be fined from 2000 to 3500 minimum wages (1 RU of the minimum wage = 18 rubles 40 kopecks) or sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 6 to 10 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities. A fine of up to 2500 minimum wages or imprisonment for a term of 2 to 6 years may threaten for participation in the activities of an organization recognized by the court as extremist.
The deputies of the Supreme Council unanimously supported the amendments to the legislations. The new norms in the Law of the PMR “On Counteracting Extremist Activities” and in the Code of Civil Procedure will come into effect immediately after being signed by the President and officially published. The changes to the Criminal Code of the PMR will take effect 14 days after signing.
