Protecting children from harmful information

11.06.2025

Protecting children from harmful information – this is the initiative of the deputies of the Committee on Education, Public Associations and the Media. Igor Buga, Andrei Safonov and Pavel Shinkaryuk proposed to impose on the organizers of events where content prohibited for children is shown the obligation to not allow minors. First of all, this will apply to movie theaters. For example, a cashier will have the right to demand a document before selling a ticket in case of doubt about the age of a visitor. The parliamentarians want to prescribe the same rights and responsibilities for employees of public libraries in the law "On librarianship".

Warnings about the demonstration of content prohibited for children at a spectacular event can be made by means of an audio message, according to the current legislation. Deputies are sure that this is not enough. Parliamentarians also propose to supplement the list of information products prohibited for distribution among children with information containing images or descriptions of sexual violence. It is planned to prohibit the inclusion of fragments with information harmful to children in film trailers in addition. Amendments and additions to the law "On the protection of children from information harmful to their health and development" and the law "On library work" were adopted in the course of the plenary session of the Supreme Council in the first reading. Work on the bills will continue.
