The opening of the XXIII International Christmas Educational Readings took place January 21 at the State Kremlin Palace. The readings subject – “Prince Vladimir. Civilizational choice of Russia” - timed to coincide with the celebration of church and state in the current year of the 1000th anniversary of the birth of Saint Prince Vladimir Equal to the Apostles. His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill led the opening ceremony and plenary session. The work is conducted in several directions in the course of the readings.
International Educational Christmas Readings – is the Church and public forum in the sphere of education, culture, social service and spiritual and moral education. The forum brought together more than five thousand participants. The opening ceremony of the Christmas Readings was attended by Chairman of the Supreme Council Mikhail Burla, Chairman of the Committee on Public Associations, Sports, Information and Youth Policy Vyacheslav Tobukh, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, Budget and Finance Peter Pasat.
The first Christmas Readings were held in Moscow in 1993. They grew out of a conference of Orthodox teachers of the Russian capital. Among the most important task of reading – there is development of Orthodox education, spiritual and moral education of the public, the expansion of cooperation between church and state in the sphere of education.
The III Christmas parliamentary meetings took place in the State Duma those days.
