Vyacheslav Kosinsky will continue to hold the position of Commissioner for Human Rights in the PMR

The Supreme Council considered the candidacy of Vyacheslav Kosinsky proposed by the President for the position of Commissioner for Human Rights in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. He has held this post since 2017. Vyacheslav Kosinsky summed up the results of the work over a 5-year period at the plenary session.

The Ombudsman heads the Pardon Commission. More than 3.5 thousand appeals from convicts for pardon were considered over the past period, Vyacheslav Kosinsky noted. Work was carried out on the legal framework in the field of human rights in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, the Ombudsman added. Assistance was provided to citizens, including those from remote villages, through representatives of the Commissioner in the cities.

The office of the Ombudsman has been operating in the republic since 2006. On the basis of the Constitutional Law “On the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic” adopted by the Supreme Council in 2005, he implements the control functions of the parliament in the field of observance of the constitutional rights and freedoms of man and citizen. Painstaking work has been carried out on each appeal for 16 years, Vyacheslav Kosinsky noted.

The Counting Commission of the Parliament organized at the plenary session a secret ballot on the candidate proposed by the President. The deputies of the Supreme Council unanimously supported the choice of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The Decree of the Supreme Council "On the appointment of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" was adopted. Vyacheslav Kosinsky will hold the position of Ombudsman for the next 5 years.

The Commissioner for Human Rights took the oath and thanked the deputies for their confidence. According to Vyacheslav Kosinsky, work will continue with state authorities for the benefit of Pridnestrovians, to improve the lives of citizens and protect their rights and freedoms.
