The Revival of Giska

24.09.2016

Giska village, whose name means "goose" (poultry was once grazed in the area), - a kind of suburb of Bendery. It is considered that they formed almost at the same time - in 1408. But the temple festival has been celebrated in late September after the construction fo the church of the Nativity of Holy Mother. That is, this year it is celebrating for the 154 time.

Before World War II mostly Ukrainians lived here. Today, the national composition is much richer: the Ukrainians together side by side with Russian, Moldovans, Gagauz, Bulgarians and Armenians. The villagers, known in Soviet times in the whole Soviet Union by its viticulture, remember with nostalgia those days. They hope to restore the vineyards and return the village to its former glory. They revive slowly but surely blighted agriculture. One of the largest local entrepreneurs Andrei Shalari in the day of the village temple celebration got out of the hands of the Speaker of Parliament, Vadim Krasnoselsky departmental award of the Supreme Council. A farmer with 200 hectares of land for five years now grows wheat, maize, but still dreams of a vine and bunches of blue-black "Moldova".

Deputy of the Supreme Council Anton Onufrienko congratulated residents of Giska. He drew attention to the gradual improvement of the local infrastructure, and expressed the hope that joint efforts will be able to make the village more beautiful and more comfortable. Together with the deputy of Bendery City Council Andrei Ivanov, they gave the village administration required office equipment.
