The issue of youth support

22.06.2022

Young families in which one of the spouses is already 35 years old should also have the right to receive a state subsidy for the purchase of housing. This is the opinion of a group of deputies of the Supreme Council who initiated amendments to the laws "On State Support for Young Families in Acquisition of Housing" and "On State Youth Policy". They were considered by the deputies at the plenary session today.

When discussing these amendments, the deputies discussed the topic of providing state support to youth. The Head of the Committee on Education and Youth Policy Igor Buga reminded his colleagues that in 2019 the age of young people in Pridnestrovie was increased from 30 to 35 years, by analogy with Russian legislation and following numerous appeals from young people at various youth forums.

At the same time, the deputies emphasized the need to support young people and agreed with the concept of the proposed legislations to eliminate legal conflicts in the current legislation.

“We are talking about prescribing 35 years inclusive, because if up to 35, then 34. Therefore, it is proposed to correct. How else can we keep the youth, if we do not think and do not take care of them. This is the future of our state. Such programs are being adopted by many states so that young people have the opportunity to purchase housing, stay and work”, said Galina Antyufeeva, Vice Speaker of the Parliament.

The Deputies of the Supreme Council supported the legislations in the first reading. The wording of the changes regarding age will be clarified - up to “35 years old inclusive” or “until reaching 36 years old”.

In addition to clarifying the age of recipients of the subsidy, the authors of the legislations proposed changing the requirements for applying for such state support. Now, by law, categories of recipients must not have private or shared housing with other people over the past 3 years. Appeals are received from those wishing to take part in the program of subsidizing the purchase of housing for young families. They relate to the fact that young people have common property, but not enough for all members of a young family to live.

The profile committee will continue to work on initiatives in preparation for the second reading.
