Vladimir Gromov is 99 years old

Veteran of the Great Patriotic War Vladimir Gromov from Tiraspol turned 99 years old. The birthday person was congratulated by deputy of the Supreme Council Grigory Dyachenko and representatives of the "Obnovlenie" (Renewal) republican political party.

Vladimir Ivanovich does not lose his cheerfulness and optimism, he has a clear memory in his venerable age and a lot of jokes in his arsenal.

Vladimir Gromov spoke about the Great Patriotic War in the course of the meeting with guests, about service in the Airborne Forces and with particular warmth about life in Tiraspol, where he settled after demobilization.

Vladimir Gromov was born on July 14, 1926 in the city of Staraya Russa, Novgorod Region. He was drafted into the army and sent to the military school in the city of Vyksa in 1943. He fought in the infantry, the 2nd Baltic Front, as part of a machine-gun company of the famous 8th Guards Panfilov Division of the 10th Guards Army. He took part in the liberation of the Baltics, the liquidation of the Courland group of German troops, and was wounded. Guard Junior Sergeant Gromov was awarded the Order of Glory, 3rd degree, for his bravery shown in March 1945 during the breakthrough of enemy defenses in Latvia. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree, the medal "For Victory over Germany", and other awards. Vladimir Ivanovich served in Pskov in the parachute division from 1946 to 1950, making 125 parachute jumps. He started a family and devoted half a century to peaceful labor having moved to Tiraspol: he worked as an electrician at a woodworking plant and as a mechanic at the Odema sewing factory.

Vladimir Gromov has repeatedly participated in Victory Day celebrations in Moscow.
