The history of the Moldavian State District Power Plant began in 1958 with the development of the project; the next year, experts began preparations for the construction of power plant. It entered the list of especially important state facilities, the best specialists from all over the Union were sent to construct it.

The first construction pit was laid in February 1961, and the first flame-motor current in the industry of the south of Ukraine and Moldova gave eight hundred days of hard work for the participants of the All-Union Komsomol construction and the employees of Yuzhenergostroy - September 26, 1964. It was a 200 MW power unit.

Each year, one unit was commissioned, there were 10 in total. In the early 80s, two combined-cycle power units were additionally commissioned. The total capacity of the power plant by this time reached 2520 megawatt. At the same time, MGRES has become a large distribution: energy supply lines can be supplied to Moldova, the southern regions of Ukraine and non-CIS countries - Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey and the Balkan states.

Before the collapse of the USSR, the Moldavian State Power Plant annually generated and supplied 12-15 billion kWh of electricity. 1986 was the record year for electricity generation. Due to the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the power system of the Soviet Union, a shortage formed, and the station, operating in peak mode, generated more than 15 billion kW / h of electricity. The unique station is capable of operating on three types of fuel - coal, gas and fuel oil. This played a huge role in early 2009, when the supply of primary fuel was discontinued as a result of the gas conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

The names of its first four directors, Methodius Mudrenko, Boris Karpov, George Kior, George Zhelyapov, are closely connected with the history of MGRES. Each of them left a bright trace in the chronicle of the station and the village, and then the city of power engineers.

In 2005, MGRES entered the energy company Inter RAO. Over the years, the company has significantly strengthened its position in the industry.

The company has invested more than $ 250 million. Almost all equipment was repaired, which allowed a four-fold reduction in the number of forced shutdowns of power units. Overhauls will allow for 20-25 years operating equipment that was installed back in Soviet times.

Today, the power plant operates only 16-20% of its capacity. It generates 91% of electricity of Pridnestrovie and is the core of the whole city - Dniester.

Many employees were awarded, and the enterprise itself with the Order of Labor Glory in honor of the anniversary.
