Solemn meeting dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Dniester special forces was held in the "Veteran" capital's club. The awards were presented to the veterans of the special rapid response unit by the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, the Head of the Committee on Legislation and Law Enforcement Agencies Galina Antyufeyeva.
The Vice Speaker of the Parliament added that the veterans of the special rapid reaction unit "Dniester" are an example of courage and heroism. Special forces soldiers were among the first to defend Pridnestrovie in the early nineties.
Veteran SOBR "Dnestr" Alexander Chepalyga said that the day of the formation of the battalion is a special holiday for him. Now his son is preparing to become a special forces soldier, he wants to defend his homeland.
Then 30 years ago, the special militia battalion became not only the first special forces, but also the first armed unit in the republic. The special forces of the Dniester detachment had to catch criminals and fight on the front line.
Fighters of the special forces "Dniester" took part in the most difficult battles to protect the PMR from the aggression of the Republic of Moldova. In addition, they guarded especially important objects on the territory of the republic and participated in the elimination of sabotage groups. 4 soldiers of the Dniester battalion were killed during the hostilities. The memory of the fallen comrades was honored with a minute of silence.
Only two of the current veterans of the Dniester battalion continue to serve to date. The rest are always in touch with the unit and share their experience with young fighters.
