The Supreme Council approved the Decree of the PMR President on the introduction of a state of emergency

11.12.2024

State of emergency has been introduced in Pridnestrovie for 30 days. The deputies unanimously approved the corresponding Decree of the PMR President in the course of the 1st emergency meeting of the VIII session of the VII convocation of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

The Decree of the President lists emergency measures that will be introduced in Pridnestrovie for the period of the state of emergency in the economy, and stipulates the main restrictions on the constitutional rights and freedoms of man and citizen during the special legal regime.

The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky took part in the work of the emergency meeting of the parliament. The President personally substantiated the need to introduce a state of emergency in the republic. Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that the issue of gas supplies to the PMR will remain in limbo until the evening of December 31. The problems with the extension of the contract have been known for a long time. Pridnestrovie has been negotiating since February, but there are still no agreements.

The President recalled that a meeting of the Security Council was held last week, at which the heads of ministries and departments discussed an action plan in case natural gas stops flowing to Pridnestrovie from January 1, 2025.

The President said that several more meetings are ahead, at which "the actions of all officials in a given situation will be clarified".

The deputies of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic unanimously voted "for" approval of the Decree of the President of the PMR on the introduction of a state of emergency in the republic for a period of 30 days. The state of emergency in the economy will come into effect in Pridnestrovie 6 hours after its publication (from December 11, 2024).

A special legal regime has been introduced for the 4th time in the modern history of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. A state of emergency was introduced in the summer of 2008 due to "an emergency situation of a natural nature that arose as a result of heavy rains in the territory of the Western regions of Ukraine, which led to catastrophic flooding of a number of settlements in the PMR located in the floodplain of the Dniester River". The state of emergency was established to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in March 2020. The state of emergency economic regime was in effect in the republic from October 20, 2022 to April 20, 2023. 2 years ago, the measures were caused by a reduction in natural gas supplies from Russia to Pridnestrovie.
