The Supreme Council addresses the guarantor countries of the negotiation process and international participants in the 5 + 2 format with a statement. It concerns the situation that has developed in recent months in the Security Zone. The statement was adopted today by the deputies of the Pridnestrovian parliament in the course of the plenary meeting. The decision that an appeal to guarantor countries was necessary was made at the meeting of the Commission on Foreign Policy and International Affairs. The PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev and the PMR Supreme Council Deputy and joint oversight board Co-Chair Oleg Belyakov informed the Commission about the state of affairs in the negotiation process and the difficult situation in the Security Zone.
Vice speaker, Head of the Foreign Policy Commission Galina Antyufeyeva said that Pridnestrovie should not patiently and silently respond to such attacks by the Moldovan authorities.
The statement to the guarantor countries adopted today emphasizes that the Supreme Council expresses strong support for the ongoing tripartite peacekeeping operation on the Dniester and is convinced that the quarantine-sanitary posts of Pridnestrovie operating in a pandemic are functioning as intended and do not constitute a threat to maintaining stability in the security zone and beyond.
The text of the statement says that the PMR Supreme Council calls on representatives of the Moldovan authorities to abandon unscrupulous interpretations and attempts to distort and discredit the Pridnestrovian side's efforts to counter the spread of coronavirus infection. It also warns the Moldovan side from continuing provocative rhetoric and actions to escalate tensions, including demonstrative provocative gestures in the form of political “tourism” of individual Moldovan officials to the Security Zone.
The adopted statement notes that the Supreme Council states its readiness to respond appropriately to the challenges arising using all available parliamentary resources, and emphasizes that the PMR state authorities involved in the negotiation process with the Republic of Moldova should continue to uphold and protect the rights and interests of citizens of Pridnestrovie in strict accordance with the legislation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
