The deputy corps adopted amendments to the law "On the museum fund and museums in the PMR" in two readings at the plenary session on June 25. The author of the legislative initiative is the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The initiative was presented at the plenary session by the head of the State Service for Culture and Historical Heritage Maria Kyrmyz. She emphasized that the introduction of the proposed amendments to the law will create conditions for increasing the sustainability of economic efficiency and independence of museums while maintaining their cultural mission. For example, museums will be able to expand the range of services provided, attract extra-budgetary sources of funding and develop museum infrastructure.
As explained by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education, Public Associations and Mass Media Andrei Safonov, a working group was created to work on this draft law, which included representatives of the Supreme Council, the State Service for Culture, the Ministry of Justice, and the Presidential Administration. A table of amendments for adoption, consisting of 12 amendments, was prepared for the second reading. For example, they define the concept of "private collection" and provide a definition of museums. Thus, museums, according to the new norm, are "cultural organizations created for the storage, study and public presentation of museum items and museum collections included in the Museum Fund of the PMR, as well as private collections, designed to carry out cultural, educational, scientific research functions and ensure the popularization of the historical and cultural heritage of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic". State museums (museums created in the form of state institutions) and municipal museums (created in the form of municipal institutions) may be created and operate on the territory of Pridnestrovie. Non-state and departmental museums may also operate.
The adopted law "On Amendments to the Law of the PMR "On the Museum Fund and Museums in the PMR" will enter into force 60 days after the day of its official publication.
