The Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic received the initiative of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky to hold a Congress of Deputies of all levels of Pridnestrovie. On February 16, the commission of the Consultative Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies decided to appeal to the President and the Supreme Council to convene a Congress of Deputies of all levels of Pridnestrovie in connection with the deteriorating economic situation in the republic. In order to develop measures to counter the deterioration of the social situation of Pridnestrovians, noted the First President of the PMR, head of the Consultative Assembly Igor Smirnov.

According to the presidential website, the PMR President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic having considered the received appeal of the Consultative Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies under the PMR Supreme Council Chairman and sharing their justified concern about the pressure from the Republic of Moldova, which violates the rights and worsens the socio-economic situation of the Pridnestrovian people, initiated the convening of the Congress of Deputies of all levels of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

In accordance with the norm of the law “On Representative Bodies of State Power and Local Self-Government”, the Supreme Council of the PMR must adopt a Resolution on convening the congress at a plenary session. The document will determine the date, location of the congress, agenda and rate of representation for local Councils.

The resolution on convening the VII Congress of the PMR Supreme Council will be considered in the coming days in the course of the plenary session.

Congresses of deputies of all levels in Pridnestrovie were convened to decide on the most important issues of the socio-political and economic life of the PMR. The first congress took place on June 2, 1990; the second – on September 2, 1990, on which the independence of Pridnestrovie was proclaimed; the third and fourth - January 20, 1991 and September 2, 1991. The fifth and sixth congresses (October 28, 1995 and March 31, 2006) were convened due to the difficult economic situation of Pridnestrovie due to the actions of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova.
