Deputies considered law-in-draft "On advocacy and the legal profession in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" today in the course of theplenary online meeting. The current law "On advocacy" that now regulates the activities of lawyers, is already 27 years old. According to the author of the initiative of the PMR Prosecutor Anatoly Guretsky, it is outdated.
Most of the proposed norms are borrowed from a similar law of the Russian Federation. Moreover, the peculiarities of our republic were taken into account. In particular, the law-in-draft refers to an increase in the number of lawyers' formations. This, according to the author, will contribute to the creation of competition in the market of legal services and will improve their quality, since the responsibility of lawyers for their activities will be increased.
Deputies of the Supreme Council voted for the adoption of the law-in-draft in the first reading. The Chairperson of the Legislation Committee Galina Antyufeyeva drew attention of her colleagues to the fact that a working group on this issue will be created and each article of the proposed law will be worked out. The proposals of all interested parties will be reflected in the amendments for the second reading.
