In a simplified manner

14.12.2018

The State Duma adopted law-in-draft on obtaining Russian citizenship in a simplified manner in the second reading. Innovations will allow compatriots who "live in countries with complex socio-political and economic conditions, where armed conflicts occur and (or) change the political regime" to be granted Russian citizenship with minimal bureaucratic costs. The President of the Russian Federation will be able to identify categories of foreigners for the granting of Russian citizenship in a simplified manner.

As the State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin told journalists earlier, the decision will be taken personally by the President, “guided by the humanitarian goals and principles of humanism”. Sergei Gavrilov, Chairman of the Duma Committee for the Development of Civil Society, Issues of Public and Religious Associations, said that it could be Ukraine, Pridnestrovie, Moldova, the Baltic States. According to him, cases of massive violations of fundamental human rights raise the question of recognizing a number of states or their parts as “the territory of genocide and mass violations of the rights of our compatriots”.

Also, according to him, we are talking about the possibility of simplifying the mode of entry into Russia, the procedures for obtaining a residence permit. And, besides, about the possibility to solve questions on the determination of their status beyond 90 days, after which many of the refugees are forced to leave Russia.
