The VII Congress of Deputies of all levels of Pridnestrovie was held at the Palace of the Republic. The reason to convene all representatives of the people of the republic was external political and economic pressure from Moldova, new Moldovan customs duties for Pridnestrovian enterprises introduced on January 1, 2024.
Deputies from all cities and regions of our republic came to Tiraspol to be heard. Registration of delegates began at 9 am; a total of 620 deputies arrived to participate in the Congress: from the Supreme Council, city, district, rural and township Councils of People's Deputies.
Members of the PMR Government, heads of departments, representatives of public organizations, as well as deputies of the Consultative Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies under the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR were invited to the people's forum. The first deputies decided on February 16 to appeal to the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky and the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic about convening a congress of deputies. On February 21, at the proposal of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the Consultative Assembly, the Supreme Council adopted a Resolution on holding the congress on February 28, 2024.
Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeyeva called the congress of deputies of all levels an important socio-political event.
Congresses of deputies of all levels in Pridnestrovie were convened in 1990, 1991, 1995 and 2006 to resolve the most important issues of the socio-political and economic life of the PMR. The agenda of the VII Congress included three items:
1. discussion of the political situation developing in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic;
2. discussion of the socio-economic situation in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic;
3. discussion and adoption of the final documents of the congress.
The delegates noted that they arrived at the Congress in the hope that the decisions of deputies at all levels would change the economic situation in Pridnestrovie.
Participants expressed the opinion that holding the Congress could attract the attention of other countries. A resolution and declaration will be adopted as a result of the national event.
The work of the Congress was opened at 11 o'clock with the anthem of the PMR in three state languages: Russian, Moldavian and Ukrainian. The Presidium of the Congress, the mandate, counting, and editorial commissions and the secretariat were elected by voting of the delegates. The agenda was approved. Further presentations were made by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Alexander Korshunov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR, Vitaly Ignatiev, the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic – the Minister of Economic Development of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Sergei Obolonik, and the heads and deputies of all city and district councils of people's deputies.
