The memory of the Chairman of the Slobodzeya Regional Executive Committee and the Council of People's Deputies Nikolai Ostapenko was honored at the Memorial of Glory in Tiraspol on the 30th of April. He passed away on the 30th of April, 1992 after being wounded. Members of the Moldovan nationalist group "Bujor" at the entrance to the village of Karagash shot down the official car of Nikolai Ostapenko when he was driving to work in Slobozeya a week earlier, on the 23rd of April. The Head of the district was hit by 18 bullets.
Friends, colleagues and relatives laid flowers at the grave of Nikolai Ostapenko. The commemorative event was attended by the Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Pavel Shinkaryuk, the current leaders of the Slobodzeya district, the village of Kitskany, deputies of the district city council, representatives of the republican OSTK, deputies of the first convocations of the Supreme Council.
It was noted at the meeting that Nikolai Ostapenko was a special person, time itself nominated him from a teacher, chairman of the village council to the Head of one of the districts of the republic.
