Memory of those innocently killed during the years of fascist occupation was honored in Tiraspol. The event was held on the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is celebrated on January 27. Soviet troops liberated prisoners of the largest Nazi death camp, Auschwitz on this day in 1945. Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeyeva and parliamentarian Grigory Dyachenko together with representatives of government bodies, social activists and concerned Pridnestrovians laid flowers at the monument to the victims of the Holocaust in the Pridnestrovian capital.
The monument to those innocently killed during the fascist occupation of Tiraspol was opened in 2018. It was dedicated to all 6 million victims of the Holocaust who died in the Nazi death camps established in Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, and Croatia. The complex of concentration camps created by the Nazis in occupied Poland was called Auschwitz, it was the largest of all the death camps.
It was noted in the course of the capital's meeting that the Nazi occupiers conducted a census of the entire Jewish population in September 1941. About 1.5 thousand Jews from Tiraspol were shot in the area of the Sukleya quarry. 18 thousand Jews died in Dubossary, about 12 thousand in Bendery, 1300 people in Rybnitsa and over 500 in Kamenka. At least 300 thousand Jews were killed on Pridnestrovian soil in total during the 4-year occupation. The exact numbers are still not known. Relatives of Tiraspol resident Gersh Isaakovich Goligorsky died, and he himself was evacuated with his parents to Kazakhstan at the age of 7.
The events of 1941-1945 are a tragic page in history not only for the relatives of the victims, but also for the entire Pridnestrovie, which is home to about 70 nationalities and nationalities.
Commemorative events dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day are held annually throughout the republic. Commemorative rallies will be held in Bendery and Dubossary on January 26.
