The exposition halls of the State Museum of History and Local Lore dedicated to the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 were ceremonially opened in the Pridnestrovian State Museum on the day of the 80th anniversary of the Victory. These are exhibition halls inside the museum building and open-air pavilions.
Visitors were greeted in the courtyard by restored equipment from war and post-war times, a machine-gun pillbox that has been recreated exactly since the war. It was part of the defensive "Stalin Line". Retreating in the spring of 1944, the Germans blew up almost all the permanent firing points along the Dniester, but the pillbox in the courtyard of the museum in Tiraspol on Pokrovskaya Street survived. A fragment of the defense line itself has been restored next to it in the form of trenches. The opening of the exhibition dedicated to the Great Patriotic War and the museum building itself was attended by President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva, Chairman of the Government Alexander Rosenberg, Mayor of the capital Ilona Tyuryaeva, clergy, and military personnel. Guests were greeted inside the new main building of the museum by an interactive exhibition – history "comes to life" on the walls of the foyer along the entire perimeter – photographs and video fragments are projected directly onto the walls, and the visitor feels like a part of historical events. The exhibition hall features a diorama of the Jassy-Kishinev operation and artifacts from the Great Patriotic War, busts of the main commanders, personal belongings of veterans, weapons and much more.
Both residents of the capital and foreign tourists were among the first visitors. Everyone looked at the exhibits with interest, starting from the museum courtyard. The exhibition pavilion with historical equipment aroused interest. The famous T-34 tank, Katyusha, one-and-a-half-ton truck, as well as the American Willys all-terrain army vehicle and the Soviet Volga are located under the canopy. All the equipment is fully restored and running.
The museum halls dedicated to the Great Patriotic War will be open for visitors for another 2-3 days, Alla Melnichuk noted. Then they will be closed for work on other thematic exhibits, and all together they will be ceremoniously opened on September 2, the day of the 35th anniversary of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
