29.02.2024

Literary and musical evening dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin’s visit to Tiraspol was held in the capital’s cultural and educational center of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius last day of winter. The evening was organized and held with the support of the Renewal Republican Party and the Future of Pridnestrovie Foundation.

Pushkin was in Tiraspol. Moreover, he was here several times. This is a documented fact. His longest visit to the Pridnestrovian capital, which was then a small county town on the outskirts of the empire, took place on January 17, 1824.

This visit to Tiraspol took place thanks to the acquaintance of the Russian poet with the official on special assignments under the Governor-General of Novorossiya Mikhail Vorontsov, Ivan Liprandi. His brother Pavel lived on Pokrovskaya Street in Tiraspol. He was the adjutant of the commander of the 6th Corps, General Sabaneev. One evening Pushkin was visiting his house. The Pridnestrovian artist Vasily Rudyaga tried to recreate this meeting. His painting, which was on stage that evening, called “Dinner in Tiraspol on January 17, 1824.”

The last day of winter, when a literary and musical evening dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin’s visit to Tiraspol took place, and the coming spring were combined in Pushkin’s story “Blizzard”. It has everything: harsh winter and romantic spring. The music of Georgy Sviridov was performed on stage by students of the Pridnestrovian State Institute of Arts. The composer wrote it specifically for the feature film “Blizzard” in 1964, based on the story of the same name by Alexander Pushkin. The composer reworked the music into a suite a few years later. It became one of the most recognizable, popular and frequently performed works by Georgy Sviridov.

The story “Blizzard” for this evening was not chosen by chance. After all, according to legend, Pushkin based it on the story of General Sabaneev’s first marriage. Although it was written much later, in the famous Boldino autumn of 1830.

Guests, schoolchildren and students were told the story of the creation of the story “The Snowstorm” by Alexander Pushkin and what place Tiraspol occupies in this amazing history.
