Residents of Tiraspol marched along the central square of the city this morning with portraits of the fallen and deceased defenders of Pridnestrovie. The Immortal Regiment takes place annually on August 1st. This date has been celebrated since 1994 as the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow for the fallen and deceased defenders of the PMR in 1992. At the Memorial of Glory, the leadership of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic honored the memory of the heroes who defended the freedom and independence of the republic 30 years ago.

The large-scale aggression of Moldova against Pridnestrovie began on March 2, 1992. More than 800 Pridnestrovians including civilians were killed during the armed conflict. About 1.5 thousand became disabled and more than 3 thousand wounded. The war on the Dniester was stopped by Russian peacekeepers. An agreement was signed in Moscow on the principles of a peaceful settlement of the armed conflict after almost 4 tragic months, on July 21, 1992, and peacekeepers of the Russian Federation entered the republic on July 29.

The leadership of the republic, relatives of the defenders, veterans honored the dead heroes with a minute of silence. Flowers were laid at the Eternal Flame, memorial plates and monuments at the Memorial of Glory by the PMR President, the First President of the PMR, the Parliament Speaker, the Government Chairman, and the city leadership.

Commemorative events were held today in all cities of the republic. Pridnestrovians lay flowers at the monuments to the defenders as a token of gratitude for the peaceful sky.
