Pridnestrovie celebrated the Day of entry of Russian peacekeepers

29.07.2023

Pridnestrovians celebrated the Day of entry of the peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation into the PMR. On July 29, 1992, units of the Russian peacekeeping forces arrived in our republic. A battalion of the Tula Airborne Division entered Bendery. The armed conflict launched by the Republic of Moldova against Pridnestrovie was stopped. Bendery after 40 days of explosions and shooting were able to return to civilian life.

Pridnestrovians lay flowers at the Peace Arch “Blessed are the peacemakers” in gratitude for the stopped armed conflict. This tradition originated in 2017, when an arch was erected between Tiraspol and Bendery. The construction is made in the form of the wings of an angel protecting the Pridnestrovian land. Flowers were laid at the Arch of Peace by Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva together with the leadership of the country and representatives of state authorities and administration.

The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized the role of the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester and expressed the opinion that peacekeepers should be on Pridnestrovian land until the conflict is fully resolved.

The presidents of Russia and Moldova signed an agreement on the principles of a peaceful settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict on July 21, 1992, at the initiative of the Russian side in Moscow. The Joint Control Commission was established as the highest controlling body in the Security Zone of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict within the framework of this document. It included representatives of Russia, Moldova and Pridnestrovie. The first decision of the JCC was to bring peacekeeping forces into the Security Zone.

The trilateral peacekeeping mission on the Dniester under the auspices of the Russian Federation has been going on for 31 years. It has confirmed its uniqueness during this time: there were no armed clashes, not a single peacekeeper was killed. “Shots and explosions are not heard, people are not killed,” - with these words the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov emphasized the role of peacekeepers in his address on the occasion of the Day of the entry of Russian peacekeeping forces into Pridnestrovie.

Today, grateful Pridnestrovians laid flowers at the memorial sign "Dove of Peace", which was installed in 2012 at the entrance to the city of Bendery. Flowers were laid at the Memorial of Memory and Sorrow. It was opened in memory of the defenders of the PMR in 1993, on the first anniversary of the Bendery tragedy. An eternal flame burns near the infantry fighting vehicle, the crew of which died in battle on June 22, 1992 at the memorial complex. Next is a monument in the form of an open chapel. It was installed in 1995 in memory of the victims of the Moldovan aggression. The memorial sign was opened a year later in the form of five reinforced concrete beams, where 498 dead defenders of the city were indicated on fragments of marble slabs. The monument to Lieutenant General Alexander Lebed appeared in 2012 at the Memorial thanks to whose efforts the bloodshed in Pridnestrovie was stopped.

Another significant date is ahead for Pridnestrovians – this is the Day of Remembrance of the Fallen and Deceased Defenders of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. Flowers will be laid at the Memorials of Glory in all cities of the republic on August 1.
