Victory Day was celebrated in Pridnestrovie

09.05.2020

The ceremonial laying on the Glory Memorial today, on the day of an important date - the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War - took place without inhabitants of the republic. Due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus and quarantine, Pridnestrovians celebrate the holiday at home, in the family circle. Solemn events for the 75th anniversary of the Victory, which were being prepared all year, were postponed indefinitely.

The feat of Soviet soldiers and officers is not forgotten. On behalf of all residents of the republic, wreaths and flowers for the Eternal Flame and on granite slabs with the names of Soviet soldiers who liberated Tiraspol were laid today by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov and Chairman of the Government Alexander Martynov. The ceremony was attended by heads of ministries and members of the Presidium of the Supreme Council.

On May 9, Pridnestrovians and residents of Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and other countries of the former USSR recall those who brought Victory closer in the trenches and at the machine tools, in the fields and in partisan detachments. Each family has its own heroes. They are grateful. They are remembered. Today, at the Memorial of Glory in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, weapon volleys sounded.

May 9 is not only a celebration of the triumph of justice, joy. This is a day of remembrance for all those who were able to give us, their descendants, a peaceful sky above our heads and freedom.

Victory Day is a symbol of life, sprinkled with the blood of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. So says the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR, Alexander Korshunov.

Alexander Korshunov noted that we, the descendants, are obliged to preserve the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War. The fight against fascism claimed the lives of tens of millions of people. This price was paid by the Soviet people for a peaceful sky, the freedom to live and enjoy every peaceful day.

More than 50 thousand people died during the Great Patriotic War and occupation in the territory of Pridnestrovie. 40 thousand Pridnestrovians were drafted into the Red Army, more than 12 thousand of them died from wounds. For courage and heroism shown on the battlefields, 13 Pridnestrovians were awarded the highest military award - the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, two Pridnestrovians became full holders of the Order of Glory.
