16.05.2025

They continue to talk in Pridnestrovie about the Great Victory over fascism. The International Scientific and Practical Conference "80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War" was opened at the Pridnestrovian State University in honor of the anniversary date. The organizers and invited guests called on students to work with archival documents and study the stories of the participants of the Great Patriotic War. All in order to preserve the memory of the price of Victory, to counteract attempts to rewrite history and the desire of many to belittle the role of the Soviet people and the Red Army in the war of 1941-1945. PSU pays special attention to these topics and not only in anniversary years.

The current conference focuses on involving young people in a scientific discussion about the most important events and battles of the Great Patriotic War. The best scientific reports will be published in the Historical Almanac of Pridnestrovie.

The participants of the international conference were welcomed by Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva. The vice-speaker emphasized the role of the university in studying the events of 1941-1945.

The vice-speaker told the students about the events that took place in the republic in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory. The culmination of the celebration of May 9 was the Immortal Regiment march, in which 85 thousand Pridnestrovians took part throughout the republic.

Galina Antyufeeva, speaking about the preservation of historical memory, mentioned the work carried out throughout the republic to restore memorial complexes and monuments dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. These events were carried out within the framework of the state program.

The Vice Speaker read out a welcoming address from the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov to the conference participants, which emphasized the important contribution to the common cause of preserving the historical truth.

Words of gratitude to the Pridnestrovian people were conveyed on behalf of the leadership of the Russian Federation and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Moldova for organizing large-scale events for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The first report at the International Conference was dedicated to the Pridnestrovian heroes of the fight against fascism during the Great Patriotic War. It was presented by State Advisor to the PMR President, PhD in History, Professor Anna Volkova. Her father participated in the Great Patriotic War, he was a pilot of the 17th Air Army, participated in the Odessa offensive and in the Jassy-Kishinev operations.

Anna Zakharova told the students that Pridnestrovie had already felt the full horror of war on June 22, 1941. Residents of Pridnestrovian cities lined up at military registration and enlistment offices to enlist in the people's militia, this was mass heroism, Anna Volkova emphasized. The historian spoke in her report about military pilots, tank crews, artillerymen, infantrymen who brought Victory Day closer, and also voiced the names of Pridnestrovians who participated in the defense of the Brest Fortress and protected pillboxes on the territory of Pridnestrovie.

Anna Zakharova emphasized the role of underground fighters during the occupation of Pridnestrovian cities and districts. Children aged 12 and older, risking their lives, wrote by hand and distributed leaflets about the horrors of the occupation in the absence of means of communication, the historian said.

The First President of the PMR, head of the Advisory Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies Igor Smirnov spoke to students about the importance of preserving the historical truth.

The conference participants were given St. George ribbons. Those present observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen defenders, after which PSU activists laid flowers at the monument dedicated to the students and teachers of the university who died in battles for the Motherland.

Students were called upon to participate in the republican campaign "The Teacher’s Feat" in the course of the conference. The Ministry of Education announced the project for the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
