The Russian Federation came to the rescue. The Georgian aggressors were pushed out of South Ossetia by Russian peacekeepers. The armed conflict, which lasted 5 days, claimed the lives of thousands of civilians, militias, soldiers and peacekeepers. The memory of the victims of aggression was honored with a minute of silence.

Pridnestrovie provided humanitarian assistance to restore the destroyed Tskhinval and a number of villages. Volunteer rescue teams were sent from our republic. South Ossetia celebrated the Day of Recognition of Independence on August 26. The city was still in ruins. Burnt tanks stood on the streets, there was cinder everywhere, eyewitnesses of those events recall.
