The ceremony of laying flowers on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was attended by the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the PMR Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, Chairman of the Government Alexander Martynov, representatives of public organizations, participants in hostilities in Afghanistan, family members of the dead soldiers-internationalists.
Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov in his address to the internationalist soldiers on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan noted that February 15, 1989 is a special day for everyone who participated in hostilities on Afghan soil, who fulfilled military duty with honor and dignity.
“On this day, mothers, widows, children and soldiers-internationalists come to the memorials in every city and village of the former Soviet Union. They bow their heads to those who never heard the order to return home. Most of them were conscripts - almost boys, yesterday's schoolchildren. The war in Afghanistan lasted for almost 10 years. During this time, thousands of families have lost their men. Afghanistan will stay with those who returned forever”, said Speaker of the Parliament Alexander Korshunov in his address.
13 thousand Soviet soldiers and officers were killed in the Afghan war totally. 54 of them are Pridnestrovians.
More often, when they talk about the feat of the Soviet soldier, it is mainly about a military feat. But little is said about the fact that the Soviet people built hundreds and thousands of hospitals, kindergartens, schools, factories, communal facilities and roads in Afghanistan.
The memory of the soldiers-internationalists was honored with a minute of silence. Fresh flowers were laid at the monument to the "Afghan" soldier and at the foot of the monument to the Grieving Mother.
