In memory of the victims of terror in Bendery

01.04.2024

Dear Pridnestrovians!

Dear residents of Bendery!

Our republic honors the memory of the victims of terror in Bendery on April 1. We remember with pain the fallen defenders of Pridnestrovie and the victims of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian armed conflict of 1990–1992.

On April 1, 1992, special police unit from Moldova and two armored personnel carriers entered Bendery. They shot a minibus with militiamen and a bus with cotton mill workers who were returning from their shift. The guardsmen and militia who arrived to help suffered losses – six people died. Later, militia captain Grigory Echin died from injuries. The defenders of Pridnestrovie, showing courage, fought for our peaceful future during the period of armed aggression of Moldova.

The time of struggle for the right to live in our own country and speak our native language will always be remembered with pain from the loss of our defenders, adults and children who died in this conflict. The events of the spring of 1992 are written in blood into the history of our state; they are filled with suffering and grief. Peace came to us at a high price, and we passed this test with honor, without flinching, defending our independence.

Eternal glory to the fallen defenders of Pridnestrovie! Huge words of gratitude to those living today. I wish everyone health, longevity and peaceful skies above heads.

of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic
