Pridnestrovie celebrated the 81st anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. The memory of the heroes and victims of the war of 1941-1945 was commemorated at 4 o'clock in the morning at the Memorial of Glory in Tiraspol. President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva, representatives of ministries and departments of the republic took part in the "Candle of Memory" annual mass event. Together with the people of Tiraspol, they lit lamps as a token of inextinguishable gratitude for the feat of the Soviet people. Fresh flowers lay next to the memorial plaques with the names of the dead soldiers.

The PMR PResident emphasized the strength of spirit and the unity of Soviet citizens, recalling the victories in major battles that led to the Great Victory. “Of course, it was difficult to count on success in such conditions. A treacherous attack, other objective and subjective factors, but it was here, on the Southern Front, that the Soviet troops managed to hold back the enemy and even on the Romanian sector of the front to launch a counteroffensive on Romanian territory. Naturally, the front line moved forward. 1941-1942 were very tragic years. The Soviet people turned the tide of the war with great sacrifices,” Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled.

German troops bombed the airfield and railway station in Tiraspol, the bridges of Rybnitsa and Bender in June 1941. Thousands of Pridnestrovians volunteered for the front in the first days of the war, among them two thousand residents of the Slobodzeya region. The territory of the region was occupied by the German-Romanian invaders from August 8, 1941 to April 11-12, 1944. The deputy of the Supreme Council Pavel Shinkaryuk took part in the commemorative events that took place early in the morning at the Memorial of Glory in Slobodzeya. The "candle of memory" was lit in all cities and regions of Pridnestrovie.
