The Republican Guard of Pridnestrovie was formed on September 10, 1991. It was created during the escalation of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict and became the prototype of the Armed Forces of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
The proposal to create special formations to protect the republic was voiced for the first time on September 2, 1991, at the IV Congress of Deputies of All Levels. On September 6, the Supreme Council adopted the Resolution "On measures to protect the sovereignty and independence of the Pridnestrovian MSSR". The leadership of Moldova began to seek the withdrawal of the Armed Forces and internal troops of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs from the republic at the same time. The Supreme Council of the PMSSR responded to these actions of the RM by adopting a Resolution on the implementation of the Law "On the Republican Guard" on September 10. Its formation began on September 29. The basis of the Republican Guard became the workers' detachments of assistance to the militia. A new memorable date was established in the republic by decree of the President of the PMR: September 10 - Day of the formation of the Republican Guard. A ceremonial opening of a monument to the fallen soldiers of the fourth battalion of the Republican Guard took place today. Among the participants of the ceremony were the First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov, the Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Oleg Obruchkov, the head of the state administration of the Dubossary district and the city of Dubossary Ruslan Chaban, the deputy of the Supreme Council of the PMR for the electoral district No. 11 "Central" Boris German, representatives of public organizations and law enforcement agencies, the youth army movement of the republic.
The honorable right to open the monument was granted to the First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov and the head of "The Union of Veterans of the Republican Guard" public organization Viktor Katareu.
The names of 14 fallen soldiers of the Republican Guard battalion are carved on the monument. They were honored with a minute of silence. Flowers were laid at the monument.
The memorial and mourning ceremony in honor of the Day of the formation of the Republican Guard continued at the Dubossary Memorial of Glory, where flowers were laid at the monuments of the fallen guardsmen.
