Monument to Count Vorontsov was unveiled in the Fortress of

The portrait sculpture of the Governor-General of Bessarabia and Novorossia, the military leader, Count Mikhail Vorontsov was unveiled today in the Pantheon of Russian Glory in the Bendery Fortress. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the PMR Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov and Vice Speaker Galina Antyufeyeva, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Artem Turov and the invitees. The solemn event was held as part of the celebration of the Day of National Unity.

In the Pantheon of Russian Glory, there are busts of great Russian commanders, whose names are associated with the history of the Pridnestrovian land. Count Mikhail Vorontsov was at first a great military leader, and then became famous as the Governor of one of the largest territories. Count Vorontsov led Bessarabia and Novorossia from 1823 to 1854. Under his leadership, the province became a prosperous region, agriculture and industry developed.

The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic emphasized that the Pantheon of Russian Glory is being created at the expense of sponsors. Financial support for the project to create a bust of Count Vorontsov was provided by the company Inter RAO. General Director of Moldavskaya GRES Valentin Trubchanin, which is part of the Russian energy company, also attended the opening ceremony of the bust today.

The fact that the opening of the monuments is important for the preservation of memory and history was said today by the Russian parliamentarian Artem Turov and other guests of the ceremony.
