11.08.2021

The memory of the Smolensk civil guardsmen who died in the largest battles of the Patriotic War of 1812 was honored in Bendery. Flower-laying ceremony took place at the Military Historical Memorial Complex. The event was timed to the feast of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. It was attended by Vice Speaker of the Pridnestrovian Parliament, Chairman of Obnovlenie Republican Political Party Galina Antyufeyeva, Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, member of the Central Council of the party Ilona Tyuryaeva, coordinator of Rossotrudnichestvo projects in Pridnestrovie Nikolai Zhuravlev and party activists.

Nikolai Zhuravlev was born and raised in Smolensk, so on this day he always remembers the warriors-fellow countrymen. He said that the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God is one of the most revered Orthodox shrines in Russia.

The Head of the Obnovlenie Republican Political Party Central Office Dmitry Voronyuk noted that such events are very important for young people. They help to convey the significance of historical events, to join the exploits of the ancestors.

After the laying of flowers, a festive prayer service took place.

The Military Historical Memorial Complex in Bendery was built on the site of abandoned military cemetery fourteen years ago. More than 5 thousand people were buried here. Most of the burials date back to the period of the Russian-Turkish wars of 1853-1856 and 1877-1878. Turkish logistic medical institutions were located then in Bendery.
