Farewell ceremony was held for the deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic of the II and III convocations Mikhail Katkov in Bendery, in the fortress church of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky on December 14. Mikhail Yuzefovich died at the age of 80. Relatives, colleagues, deputies of the Supreme Council, and comrades-in-arms came to pay a last tribute to the famous statesman and public figure.
Mikhail Yuzefovich Katkov is a well-known statesman and public figure of Pridnestrovie, a man with a bright biography. He was born in 1945, received his education at the Chisinau State University, his career began in 1963 with work as an electrician, and then he devoted a significant part of his life to service in the Armed Forces of the USSR, including performing international duty in Afghanistan. Since 1990, Mikhail Yuzefovich has been actively involved in political life, he was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Moldavian SSR, he resigned in 1992. He worked in the headquarters of civil defense of Bendery in the early 90s. Later, Mikhail Katkov represented the interests of the people of Pridnestrovie in the Supreme Council of the II and III convocations, holding the post of deputy chairman of the Committee on Security and Defense. Mikhail Katkov made a great contribution to the development of the veterans' movement. Since 1998, he headed the Pridnestrovian Association of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan, and since 2014 he has been its honorary member. The book "Hardened by Afghanistan" was published under his editorship, which collected children's creative works on the topic of Afghanistan. Mikhail Yuzefovich was remembered by his colleagues and comrades-in-arms who came to see him off on his final journey. They emphasized that Mikhail Katkov was not only an experienced leader and a talented organizer, but also a man of great soul. His willingness to support with a kind word or deed left good memories in everyone who communicated with him and knew him personally. Mikhail Yuzefovich Katkov contributed to the development of parliamentarism, the strengthening of the veteran movement and the patriotic education of youth.
