The 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment dates back to January 5, 1798, when the Rochensalm garrison regiment was formed. The Podolsk Infantry Regiment was created on its basis, on January 17, 1811, during the reorganization of the Russian army. For more than a century of existence, the regiment went through more than one war, participated in many military campaigns, decisive battles. Many units of the Russian army were equipped with its parts at various times. The regiment was stationed in Bendery three times.
The tradition of honoring this military unit in Pridnestrovie with the participation of the first persons of the state was resumed in 2017. The initiator was the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky. The date of August 29 was not chosen by chance. This is the day when the Icon of the Savior Not Made by Hands is honored, which is the patron of the camp church of the 55th Podolsk Regiment.
Commemorative and solemn events in honor of the Podolsk Regiment are traditionally held on the territory of the Bendery Military Historical Memorial Complex, created at the burial site of soldiers and officers of the Russian Imperial Army, including the Podolsk Regiment, the press service of the PMR President writes. The memory of the soldiers was honored by the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov, Chairman of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Rosenberg, representatives of ministries and departments.
The PMR President noted in his speech about why it is so important to remember the past and honor the heroes of our Fatherland.
Archbishop Sawa of Tiraspol and Dubossary served a prayer service in memory of the soldiers who fell defending the Pridnestrovian land. The participants of the regimental celebration at the end of the traditional rally laid flowers at the Orthodox cross, installed in the center of the Military Historical Memorial Complex. Solemn events near the monument of Russian military glory continued. Litiya was celebrated at the monument for the defenders of the Fatherland who died at different times, flowers were laid at the monument, created in 1912 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Patriotic War. The regimental celebration ended in the Church of the Holy Right-Believing Prince Alexander Nevsky. The final point of the celebrations was the performance of the Pridnestrovian State Choir.
