The fallen defenders memory was honored in Bendery

19.06.2023

Pridnestrovie recalls the events of 1992, when Moldova attacked the peaceful city of Bendery. On June 19, when, contrary to the decision of the Moldovan parliament on a peaceful settlement of the Pridnestrovian issue, adopted in a few days, a paramilitary invasion was made in the city of Bendery. The armed conflict, which lasted 40 days in the city, claimed the lives of several hundred Pridnestrovians. June 19 begins with memorial services in the churches of the republic every year in memory of the Bendery tragedy. The ceremony of laying flowers on the Memorials of Glory took place then.

Families and relatives of the fallen defenders and their comrades-in-arms came to the Bendery Memorial of Memory and Sorrow from early morning. The procession of the Immortal Regiment takes place usually on a memorable day. It was not held this year due to the yellow level of terrorist danger. Pridnestrovians came with portraits of their heroes despite this: those who died in 1992 or died in the post-war period.

A teacher at the Bendery Medical College Nonna Borisovna Kremeno every year comes to the Memorial to honor the memory of all those who died during the events of 1992. Her brother Pyotr Borisovich Rud died in that undeclared war.

The deceased defenders were called by name. State officials and citizens honored them with a minute of silence. The flower-laying ceremony was attended by the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, Head of Government Alexander Rosenberg, First President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Igor Smirnov, deputies Ruslan Gareev, Ivan Nedelkov, Anton Onufrienko, Andrey Safonov, leaders of the city of Bendery, heads of ministries and departments.

The flowers lay at the Eternal Flame near the Infantry Fighting Vehicle, at the monument to Lieutenant-General Alexander Lebed and at the commemorative plates with the names of the dead.

Flowers were laid today at other places memorable for the people of Bendery, reminiscent of the tragic events of 1992: at the City of Military Glory Memorial, at the memorial sign installed on Panin Street at the site of the death of guardsmen, at the monument to the defenders of Pridnestrovie, at the Military Historical Memorial Complex.

Further, commemorative events in Bendery continued at the Borisov cemetery, where the defenders of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic are buried.
