The Day of the formation of the 55th Podolsk regiment was celebrated in Bendery

29.08.2020

The main part of the celebrations in honor of the Day of the 55th Podolsk Regiment took place at the Military Historical Memorial in Bendery. It is on this memorial that the soldiers and officers of the 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment of the Russian Imperial Army, which was stationed in Bendery at the end of the 19th century, are buried. Due to the pandemic, traditional festivities and religious procession have been canceled this year, the presidential press service reported.

The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, representatives of the Government, ministries and departments took part in the celebrations. The guest of the regimental holiday was the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh Artur Tovmasyan. A delegation of the Republic of Artsakh arrived in Pridnestrovie yesterday to take part in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the PMR.

Archbishop Sawa of Tiraspol and Dubossary serviced a prayer service in memory of the fallen soldiers, and those present laid wreaths and flowers at the foot of the Orthodox Cross.

The Poklonny Cossack Cross was also consecrated at the memorial complex. It was installed at the initiative of the President in memory of the Cossacks who died defending Bendery in 1992. The names of 95 Cossacks - soldiers of the Black Sea Cossack army and the Cossack troops of Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic states - are carved on the plate.

The event continued with a lithium ceremony and a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to "Russian military glory". An obelisk in honor of the infantrymen of the 55th Podolsk regiment was erected in Bendery in 1912 to commemorate the centenary of victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. The inscription on the pedestal expressed respect for the soldiers and officers of the older generation at the beginning of the 20th century.
