The first round of presidential elections was held in Abkhazia

This year, nine candidates claimed the position of leader of the state, among them the current head of the republic, Raul Khadjimba. Since 1994, the presidential election has been held in Abkhazia for the seventh time.

According to Tamaz Gogia, the head of the Abkhaz CEC, 60 observers and 79 journalists arrived at the elections from different countries. Grigory Dyachenko, Deputy of the Supreme Council of the PMR, was present as an observer in the elections in Abkhazia.

The CEC of Abkhazia reports that the turnout in the elections exceeded 56%. As you know, to recognize the elections held it must exceed the mark of 50%. During the first round, 152 polling stations operated in the country.

To win the first round, the candidate needed to get more than half the votes of those who came to vote. Raul Khadjimba, who is the current head of state, and chairman of the Amtsakhara party Alkhas Kvitsinia entered the second round in the presidential election in Abkhazia. At the same time as the head of Abkhazia, the vice president is also elected. The second round of elections will take place over the next two weeks.

Representatives of the delegation of the Council of the Federation of Russia, who arrived in the country as observers, commented on the situation in the presidential elections in Abkhazia.

The head of the Russian delegation, deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, Farit Mukhametshin emphasized that the delegation began active work in the morning.

 Member of the Russian delegation Mikhail Kozlov emphasized that people care about the fate of the republic. Therefore, from the very early morning they went to the polling stations in order to realize their will.

German Bundestag deputy Stefan Koyter said he was able to visit 10 polling stations.

The delegation of observers from South Ossetia also reported on the most positive impressions of both the organization of the elections and the mood of the voters.
