Tightening criminal liability for repeated driving under the influence of alcohol

30.11.2022

If drivers who were previously prosecuted for "drunk" driving, and they were already convicted, again while intoxicated, they could face up to 3 years in prison. The Criminal Code prescribed a 2-year term of imprisonment previously. The maximum fine has also become larger – not 400, but 500 minimum wages (9200 rubles).

Tougher criminal liability for drunk drivers with a criminal record was proposed by the Prosecutor of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The law-in-draft on amending the Criminal Code, taking into account the amendments of the Legislation Committee was adopted today by the Supreme Council in the second final reading.

The law-in-draft also introduces criminal liability for those who get behind the wheel while deprived of a driver's license and have a criminal record for driving that led to the death of a person or injury to health. They can be imprisoned for this offense for 2 years or fined up to 600 RU of the minimum wage. This is over 11 thousand rubles.

The amendments to the Criminal Code of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic adopted today will come into force 14 days after signing by the President.
