One of the most tragic events in the history of young Pridnestrovie began in the city of Bendery 29 years ago on the 19th of June, 1992. Contrary to the ceasefire agreement reached between Chisinau and Tiraspol, regular units of the Moldovan army and police treacherously broke into Bendery. The invasion was accompanied by massive artillery and mortar shelling.
Almost 700 Pridnestrovians were killed in Bendery, more than 1300 people were injured, more than 100 thousand refugees left the city. 1300 houses were completely or partially destroyed in the city, almost all education and health facilities, almost 50 enterprises were looted and destroyed. For everything that has been done so far, the Moldovan authorities have not apologized to the people of Pridnestrovie and have not recognized the fact of the massacre they started in Bendery.
Veaceslav Kogut, then a Deputy of the Supreme Council of the first convocation and chairman of the Bendery executive committee, says that there was no doubt that Moldova was preparing for this step.
Nationalism, sometimes turning into Nazism, is always blood, death and injustice. There is a lot of evidence of this in history. The events of 1992 showed the readiness of the Pridnestrovians to defend their land and the need to create their own armed forces to protect the state.
Commemorative events continued at the Borisov cemetery in the city of Bendery.
