The Third Attempt

04.03.2015

The initiative of the President of PMR, aimed at reducing the number of members of the deputies of the legislative and representative authority of the republic, has its own history. This is the third attempt to reduce, the number of parliamentarians involved in the creation of the legal framework of the state, its improvement from the current 43 to 35 people at the legislative level. Earlier, the proposal to reduce the number of lawmakers was in connection with their transition to work exclusively on a permanent basis.

Introducing the law-in-draft on behalf of the President, its official representative in the Supreme Council, First Deputy Minister of Justice Irina Barbarosh called the intention to reduce the number of lawmakers often using the word "optimization". According to her, this will lead to budgetary savings (as calculated by the initiators of the constitutional amendments, it is approximately 920 thousand Rubles), which is very important, according to them, in terms of socio-economic crisis. It was noted that the released resources will be spent on technical equipment of the Supreme Council.

In accordance with decision adopted by parliamentarians in accordance with proposal of the President to hold 29 November 2015 single day of voting for the election of deputies of the Supreme and local councils, in the period until August 29, is already necessary to define the boundaries of electoral districts, to form the corresponding commission. It turns out that the discussion at today's plenary session of the legislative initiative to change some articles of the Constitution, the Electoral Code and the Rules of the Supreme Council, is a bit late. For these reasons, the responsible parliamentary committee recommended that the deputies colleagues to reject this package of legislations. 23 legislators voted for the rejection.
