30.08.2019

Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov and parliamentarian from Bendery Sergey Pisarenko took part in the celebration of the 221st anniversary of the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment. The President Vadim Krasnoselsky introduced the tradition of honoring the Russian army, namely the military personnel of the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment stationed in Bendery, while he was still the Minister of Internal Affairs. It took root. Evidence of this is the numerous participants in the celebration this year, when the glorious military regiment of the Russian Empire turned 221 years old.

The regiment was formed back in 1798 on the shores of the Gulf of Finland. The warriors received the first baptism of fire in the Russian-Swedish war during the siege and capture of the Loviz fortress. In 1831, the regiment participated in the siege and capture of Warsaw, later in the war in the Caucasus, in 1855 - in the defense of Sevastopol (for this he received four St. George banners!). Then Bendery became the place of deployment of the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment. Later there were Russian-Turkish wars with the defense of Shipka and the liberation from the Ottomans of the Balkan Peninsula and the fraternal Bulgarian people, the Russo-Japanese war and the First World War. The regiment was disbanded in the troubled 1917.

It is symbolic that the next anniversary of the formation of the regiment is celebrated on the day of the Transfer of the Miraculous Image of the Lord and the celebration in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God Fedorovskaya. In this regard, the Archbishop of Tiraspol and Dubossary, Savva, held a lithium. The place of celebration was the military-historical memorial complex of Bendery. The hymns of the PMR and the Russian Empire sound, heralding the beginning of the celebration of the Russian army.

Vadim Krasnoselsky drew the attention of those present to the need for a careful attitude to history.

That was just the beginning of the holiday that continued with a procession to the unofficial symbol of Bendery, the monument to the Russian military glory “Eagle”, where the leadership of the republic, parishioners laid flowers. Paying tribute to the ancestors, the current and future Pridnestrovian warriors marched in a solemn march.

A prayer service was held in the church of Alexander Nevsky, located on the territory of the Bendery Fortress. Under its vaults enchanting voices of participants of the Pridnestrovian state choir rushed. Meanwhile, a concert started in the fresh air from the performance of the Russian Waltz. The festive salute became the apotheosis of festive celebrations.
