14.10.2023

The ceremonial events on the occasion of the capital's birthday traditionally began at the Memorial of Glory. The top officials of the state, city authorities, together with residents of Tiraspol, laid flowers at the graves of the defenders who gave their lives over the years.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Galina Antyufeyeva together with deputies from the capital's electoral districts Vadim Levitsky and Igor Buga laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, memorial plaques with the names of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and defenders of Pridnestrovie, and at the Sorrowful Mother. All those present honored the memory of the fallen heroes with a minute of silence.

It has already become a tradition to lay flowers at the monuments to the city’s founders on the capital’s birthday. Catherine the Great and Alexander Suvorov, immortalized in bronze, are installed opposite each other on the main square of Tiraspol. The top officials of the state laid flowers at the foot of the monuments.

Both of these historical figures, Catherine II and A. Suvorov, played a huge role in the emergence of the city on the Dniester. It was during the reign of Catherine the Great that the territory of modern Pridnestrovie was included in Russia. By decree of the Russian Empress, the city of Grigoriopol and the Sredinnaya fortress were founded, around which the city of Tiraspol grew. The fortress was designed by Franz De-Volan, and the construction was inspected by Generalissimo Alexander Suvorov.

231 years after its founding, Tiraspol was awarded four orders: the Order of the Patriotic War of the first degree - for contribution to the victory in 1945, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor - for the post-war restoration and development of the economy and culture, the Order of the Republic - for contribution to the successful development of Pridnestrovie. The PMR President awarded Tiraspol another established the day before the Order of Catherine the Great for the great contribution of city residents to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage and traditions, development and strengthening of economic and social potential.

Tiraspol celebrated its birthday on one of the great church holidays – the Protection of the Theotokos. These two dates were connected just a quarter of a century ago, in 1998. However, the date was not chosen by chance. The main capital's temple was consecrated in honor of the Feast of the Intercession and stood in the very center of Tiraspol. The temple was destroyed in the 30s of the last century, but the Orthodox clergy serves festive prayers in the present century, every year on this day on the site of the destroyed temple. A few years ago a chapel appeared here. Archbishop of Tiraspol and Dubossary Sawa together with the priests of the diocese served the liturgy today.

Farmsteads began operating from 10.00. Enterprises and entrepreneurs, creative workshops showed everything that the capital is rightfully proud of. Celebrations in the center of Tiraspol will take place until late evening.
