A quarter of century on guard of the republic

13.12.2019

Tens of thousands of people in the early 1990s rose up to defend the young state: militiamen, territory rescue teams, militia, guards, Cossacks, volunteers from Russia and Ukraine. They all looked fearlessly in the face of death, stood up and won, because Victory always chooses those who defend their home. A quarter century ago, the military fraternity of the defenders of Pridnestrovie was formed. Those who fought in the 92nd, in the 94th joined in a public organization. Today it celebrated a quarter-century anniversary. Representatives of the deputy corps Grigory Dyachenko, Petr Pasat, Vadim Kravchuk, Sergey Vasiliev, Oleg Belyakov, Ilona Tyuryaeva attended the celebration of those who defended the republic.

Newsreels returned the event to the hot summer of the 92nd. As a sign of respect for the feat of the defenders of Pridnestrovie, on behalf of the participants of the anniversary solemn meeting at the Memorial of Glory, they laid a basket with flowers. Here, on the granite slabs, the names of 804 defenders of the republic are carved, a sculpture of a mourning mother is installed.

A report on the organization’s activities was made by the Head of the Public Organization “Republican Union of Defenders of the PMR”, Deputy Chairman of the Tiraspol City Council Vladimir Buchka. He spoke about the history of the creation and formation of the organization, the work carried out by its members, including the patriotic education of the younger generation, participation in the most significant socio-political events. The main goals of the organization remain the protection of the republic, its international recognition and social support for the defenders of the PMR.

The welcoming address of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky was read out by the Chairman of the Government Alexander Martynov.

The Chairman of the Government presented high state awards to a number of members of a public organization that enjoys well-deserved authority in the republic.

On behalf of the entire deputy corps, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov congratulated the anniversary of the public organization of defenders of Pridnestrovie. His welcome address was read out by Deputy Grigory Dyachenko.

Alexander Korshunov noted the special significance of such areas of work of a public organization as the social support of its members and the patriotic education of the younger generation of Pridnestrovians. The speaker wished “good health, prosperity and a peaceful sky above your head” to defenders of the republic, as well as their families, who always showed an active life position.

All these years, the state pays tribute to the heroism of the defenders of Pridnestrovie. And it does this not from case to case, but on the basis of the law. Protection of the rights and interests of participants (disabled) in hostilities to protect the republic is the prerogative of the state. The first legislative act defining the legal status of veterans, establishing standards for their social, legal and material security, was adopted on June 30, 1992, even before the official end of hostilities.

In the future, the legislation establishing the categories of war veterans, the scope of benefits provided to them, repeatedly underwent changes and additions. The law on Social Protection of War Veterans, which entered into force on March 21, 1995, became basic, the first to determine the status of a participant in the PMR defense. This law, with amendments and additions, is valid in the territory of Pridnestrovie to the present. The normative act not only establishes the legal status of war veterans, but also defines legal guarantees and economic measures for their social protection. They are aimed at creating decent living conditions, social security for war veterans, the possibility of their active work, honor and respect in society.

Deputy of the Supreme Council, the defender of Pridnestrovie Vadim Kravchuk spoke about what moved the defenders of our statehood in the 1992.
