The peace maintaining co-operation

Meeting with experts of the independent non-governmental organization Martti Ahtisaari Center, former President of Finland and Nobel Prize winner, who founded it in 2000, took place at the Supreme Council. The main activity of the center – is conflict resolution and promotion of sustainable peace in the framework of regional programs in Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus, the Middle East and Africa. Since 2011, the international organization is also engaged in confidence-building measures in support of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict including the expert level. Martti Ahtisaari Center creates a platform for meetings with experts from the Russian Federation and Pridnestrovie, Moldova, the European Union and the United States.

Support for the Pridnestrovian settlement process this year and 2016 was the main theme of the dialogue between the members of the Supreme Council and representatives of the Martti Ahtisaari Center. Pridnestrovian parliament was presented by the vice-speaker, head of the Supreme Council of the Commission for Foreign Policy and International Affairs, the head of the Committee for Social Policy Sergey Cheban, chairman of the committee on legislation Galina Antyufeeva and head of the Committee for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises Viktor Guzun. The meeting was attended by the head of the program for Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia Roxana Cristescu, policy advisers Denis Matveev and Jale Sultanli from Martti Ahtisaari Center.

The delegation of the international organization visited the Supreme Council for the second time. Representatives of the Martti Ahtisaari Center were interested in current priorities of the Pridnestrovian legislature for a possible solution of problems facing by the republic. During the dialogue, Sergei Cheban noted that today it is necessary to focus on the work of the anti-crisis laws, measures to overcome the economic crisis. As explained to the guests, by Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, currency devaluations in neighboring countries, the loss of some markets had an impact on the situation in Pridnestrovie, lives of people.

Deputy Victor Guzun asked the question regarding prospects of cooperation of Pridnestrovian parliament with the international organization. Denis Matveev, understanding the current situation faced by Pridnestrovie, in turn, noted that today Martti Ahtisaari Center aims to contribute to the search for solutions to exit from a difficult situation.

Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Sergei Cheban in the continuation of the dialogue drew attention to the need for joint solutions to problems related to the environment, shipping traffic, railway electrification.

After the meeting, the Vice-Speaker Sergei Cheban invited representatives of international organizations to participate in the elections to the legislative and local representative bodies as international observers in the course of a single day of voting on 29 November and to verify the legitimacy of the will of Pridnestrovians.
