Preserving the historical truth about ancestors’ exploits

A conference of the Republican public organization “Veterans of War, Labor and Armed Forces” was held in Tiraspol. According to Chairman Yuri Ilyashenko, now there are more than 20 000 people throughout Pridnestrovie. These are veterans of the Great Patriotic War, workers of the rear, widows, children of veterans, prisoners of concentration camps and blockades.

Every year, there are less and less veterans of the Great Patriotic War. More than 500 people passed away in five years. Their memory was honored with a minute of silence.

The organization, together with parliament and executive authorities, is working to protect the rights and interests of veterans. They are assisted in acquiring the necessary medicines, food, and there are benefits for paying for utilities and gas. Vouchers to sanatoriums and rest houses are allocated.

Not a single military-patriotic event in Pridnestrovie can do without the participation of veterans. Veterans give an example of courage and morality, which is necessary for the younger generation in schools, universities, military units and patriotic organizations.
