The Symbol of Courage of the Soviet people

10.07.2021

Dear veterans, dear Pridnestrovians!

80 years ago on the 10th of July, 1941 the battle for the defense of Leningrad began. The whole world witnessed the incredible courage and resilience of Soviet soldiers, true patriots of their Motherland, who at the cost of their lives broke the enemy's plans, having a huge impact on the further development of the course of the Great Patriotic War. The entire population of Leningrad as one rose to defend their native city. Residents, together with the soldiers, created defensive fortifications and structures, joined the militias. Old people and children tirelessly, along with adults produced military equipment, weapons, ammunition at defense enterprises day and night.

The fascist invaders did not expect such a turn of events; they stumbled upon a fierce rebuff. "Not a step back from the occupied line" – such was the order of the Military Council of the Leningrad Front. It was done with honor. The enemy did not set foot on their native land, the enemy was stopped. The defense of Leningrad is a symbol of courage and courage of the heroic Soviet people. The Russian spirit cannot be broken. We are proud of our heroes.

The siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days. During the occupation, more than 100 thousand bombs were dropped on the city, according to various sources, from 400 thousand to 1.5 million people died from hunger, frost and bombing, the exact data are still unknown. But the Nazis could not break the spirit of the inhabitants of Leningrad. The city survived. Those who survived the besieged Leningrad live in our republic as well. Their feat is not forgotten, they are equated with the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

We will never forget at what cost our peaceful and bright future was won. Eternal memory to our heroes! Your feat will live forever in our hearts!
