Agriculture in the spotlight of the first deputies

30.03.2023

The main issue of regular meeting of the Consultative Assembly of the first Pridnestrovian deputies was agriculture. The Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Oleg Diligul, representatives of the Government, public organizations and students of the Agrarian and Technological Faculty of the Pridnestrovian State University named after Taras Shevchenko were invited to the conversation.

The importance of agriculture in Pridnestrovie has long been discussed. Designed for 7 years the state target program for the development of the agro-industrial complex of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was approved in 2019. The state program has been in place aimed at restoring and developing the reclamation complex since 2022. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic signed a Decree declaring 2023 the Year of the Agro-Industrial Complex, Rural Territories and Rural Tourism in August last year. An action plan has been prepared, consisting of 87 points as part of the Year of the Agro-Industrial Complex.

The Minister of Agriculture at the beginning of the meeting presented to the first deputies a report on the work of the department for 2022. Oleg Diligul drew attention to the challenges faced by the Pridnestrovian agricultural complex last year and highlighted the main goals and objectives facing the Ministry of Agriculture in 2023.

After listening to the report of the Head of the Ministry of Agriculture, the first deputies were able to ask him questions of interest. First of all, veterans of parliamentarism asked how efficiently agricultural land is used in Pridnestrovie.

Oleg Diligul noted that the efficient and rational use of agricultural land is a priority for the state. The Ministry of Agriculture conducts regular on-site inspections and monitoring, takes appropriate measures if the land is used inefficiently.

The first deputies discussed with the head of the Ministry of Agriculture issues of pricing for agricultural products, ways to prevent soil erosion and improve land legislation. They also talked about existing measures of state support for peasant farms.

One of the strategic tasks for the state today is to ensure food security. This is reflected not only in the programs for the development of the agricultural complex, but also in the Development Strategy of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic for 2019-2026.

Igor Smirnov noted that there are both former ministers of agriculture and farmers who know firsthand all the nuances of the industry among the members of the Consultative Assembly. Veterans of parliamentarism based on the results of the dialogue with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture will draw up a list of additional questions and their own proposals and send it to the relevant department.
