Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba commented on the appeal to the UN, for the adoption of which the deputy corps voted unanimously.
"Facts are a stubborn thing. The facts suggest that the Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic exists 27 years as a legal, democratic state with all formed institutions of power. I am sure that the universal, most authoritative international organization will not be able to abandon the existence of this fact by taking the "ostrich" position. We hope that the United Nations will pay attention to our treatment. We will have new contacts and opportunities to take the negotiating process from Moldova to a qualitatively new level. We want the position of the people of Pridnestrovie to be heard ... Over the 25 years of its existence, the peacekeeping mission has been assessed positively. We have mutual misunderstandings and roughness in the form of unilateral actions on the part of Moldova and Ukraine, which do not allow us to look confidently in tomorrow. These grounds will not allow us to consider the issue of changing the format of the peacekeeping operation. The main principle - do no harm - must dominate. I am sure that most of the countries of the world community that have gone through a difficult path to independence will seriously take our treatment, considering it in essence. We had the opportunity to convey the truth about Pridnestrovie. I hope they will hear us,"Alexander Scherba concluded.
