02.08.2018

The Institute for Socio-Political Research and Regional Development held a round table with international participation "Russian peacekeeping on the Dniester: new risks and prospects". According to the website of Institute for Socio-Political Research and Regional Development, the event dedicated to the peacekeeping operation in the region was held for the second time.

Experts from Pridnestrovie, Russia, Moldova, Abkhazia and Gagauzia discussed the current state of affairs around the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester, talked about the pressure on the peacekeeping mission of Russia, possible scenarios for the development of the situation in the region. Deputy of the Supreme Council, Andrei Safonov is among the participants in the discussion.

The Special Representative of the President of the PMR for relations with Ukraine, Vladimir Yastrebchak, drew attention to the legal and legal risks that have recently emerged around the peacekeeping operation and the 1992 Agreement. One of the main ones is the attempts made in Moldova to include the Russian Federation in the composition of the conflicting parties.

According to the deputy of the Supreme Council Andrei Safonov, it is necessary to ensure the existence of two important conditions in Pridnestrovie: a strong army and a stable economy.

The participants in the discussion are sure: Russian peacekeepers are the basis of peace on the Dniester, there are no alternatives to them. Experts suppose that it is necessary to oppose any attempts to intervene in the existing peacekeeping operation from the outside.

As a result of the round table, it is planned to publish a separate collection of materials.
